Somos la agencia de noticias Prensa Comunitaria Kilómetro 169 en Guatemala, conformada por un equipo multidisciplinario que proviene de las ciencias sociales, el periodismo, el arte, los feminismos y el medioactivismo. Estamos trabajando desde el nivel comunitario, nacional y fuera de nuestro país. Prensa Comunitaria se legalizó como una agencia de prensa alternativa el 20 de diciembre de 2012.
Nacemos como un proyecto de investigación académica coordinada por el Dr. Santiago Bastos, estudiando el proceso de consultas comunitarias que se estaban realizando en el país desde el 2005 y también la crisis comunitaria provocada por la imposición del modelo extractivo, que en el año 2011 provocó los violentos desalojos en el Valle del Polochic, en la región de Alta Verapaz e Izabal, la instalación de la planta San Gabriel de la empresa cementera en las doce comunidades Kaqchikel de San Juan Sacatepéquez y en el 2012 el Estado de Sitio en Barillas, Huehuetenango.
Por ello, nuestro interés principal está en la movilización comunitaria en el ámbito social, cultural y político; y también en la memoria y la historia, que es nuestro segundo eje de trabajo así como la violencia contra las mujeres, los feminismos en sus diferentes expresiones.
El centro de nuestro trabajo de investigación y documentación son los sujetos, en particular a las mujeres y los pueblos indígenas. Mostramos los esfuerzos que realizan y las situaciones de amenaza por las que pasan en su entorno. Este proyecto se llama “Dinámicas del despojo en la Guatemala neoliberal, luchas y resistencias”.
Somos un grupo de mujeres y hombres de origen maya q’anjob’al, k’iché´, q’eqchi, pocomchi’, kaqchikel, chuj y mestizo. Vivimos en diferentes lugares del país y tenemos experiencias diversas. Partimos de un sueño común y de unidad. De ahí la noción de lo comunitario. Nuestro trabajo lo realizamos en Huehuetenango, Alta Verapaz, Baja Verapaz, San Juan Sacatepéquez, San Marcos, Quetzaltenango, Chimaltenango, Totonicapán, Petén, Izabal y la ciudad capital del país.
¿Por qué Km. 169?
Este lugar se conoce como la cumbre de Alaska en el departamento de Totonicapán y Sololá, sobre la carretera Interamericana, exactamente el kilómetro 169. El día 4 de octubre del año 2012 el ejército de Guatemala realizó en este lugar la primera masacre en la posguerra: ahí fueron asesinadas 6 personas maya K’iché durante una manifestación pacífica de miles de comunitarios y comunitarias, representadas por los 48 Cantones de Totonicapán. Además hubo más de 50 personas heridas por las balas de fusilería del ejército, dos personas más fallecieron en el hospital nacional de Totonicapán y el resto sobrevivió con heridas de gravedad. En memoria de este momento y en homenaje a las víctimas, tomamos el nombre de este lugar.
Mucha gente se pregunta ¿cómo es que trabajamos?
El periodismo comunitario que estamos haciendo, parte del uso de todas estas herramientas teórico y conceptuales también es periodismo trasmedia, ya que contamos las historias en diferentes formatos y plataformas de producción, distribución no tradicionales. Combinamos el arte, el testimonio, el periodismo y las ciencias sociales para hacer crecer nuestras audiencias y crear una comunidad más participativa y activa, creadora de contenidos y que también difunde.
Utilizamos una web participativa, donde todos los miembros de la comunidad elaboran y comparten contenidos. Somos muy activos en las redes sociales como Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Youtube, vimeo, medium. Todos nuestros reporteros utilizan principalmente los dispositivos móviles para crear contenidos, postear y difundir las noticias, hacemos ciberperiodismo. La narrativa trasmedia es completamente comunitaria y colaborativa. Con el periodismo comunitario, las personas dejan de ser usuarias y objetos para ser sujetos activos de acuerdo a sus intereses y prioridades. Nuestra sala de redacción es virtual por el carácter de la agencia.
Difundimos sobre la base de lo digital en el internet, redes sociales, en la televisión comunitaria y en las radios comunitarias.
Es la propia audiencia la que se involucra con nuestro medio aportando como diseñadores, creadores, hackers y activistas tecnológicos, artistas, científicos sociales y activistas. En este momento de la historia la ciudadanía cada vez más está clara de que su participación es necesaria, por lo que esta es una alternativa para esto. Esto contribuye a la democratización de la información, la comunicación y de la sociedad.
Hemos creado también un espacio artístico con instalaciones, intervenciones artísticas, muestras de arte, cortometrajes, novela gráfica y tenemos un museo dedicado a la niñez desaparecida, para trabajar con niñez y con estudiantes de todas las edades.
Nuestro enfoque metodológico
Nuestra forma de periodismo da visibilidad a los sujetos, facilita la publicación en versión textual y multimedia, de lo que generan las personas comunes. Esas mismas que antes eran representadas por intermediarios en la prensa corporativa. Esta es una manera de romper el cerco mediático, que posibilita parte del éxito de las luchas de los propios movimientos o de la ciudadanía que utiliza los medios libres para expresarse. También da la oportunidad de contar sus relatos, que no solamente son noticia, sino sucesos o hechos históricos.
Somos una narrativa dentro de la narrativa dominante, todo sirve, y a la vez nada es suficiente para contar historias que describan la realidad que nos dispusimos comprender, por eso usamos diferentes enfoques teóricos, estéticos y filosóficos.
Nuestro trabajo existe en la intersección de las múltiples miradas, múltiples disciplinas tanto desde las ciencias sociales, así como el periodismo y el arte. Las historias de crean y se cuentan a través de muchas plataformas que van desde lo virtual, la radio comunitaria, la televisión comunitaria y la asamblea comunitaria. También se cuentan en el ámbito académico en reportes de campo, congresos académicos y libros publicados en papel. En el campo del arte utilizamos la literatura, la fotografía, el vídeo, las artes plásticas y la museografía.

A pesar de los riesgos que esto significa nos hemos dedicado parte de nuestros esfuerzos por documentar el Caso del Hogar Virgen de la Asunción, en donde las 56 niñas fueron víctimas de un terrible crimen.
